Dr. Andrade Díaz and Prof. Dr. Piquer-Rodríguez traveled to the Dry Chaco region (Argentina) in July and August 2024

News from Sep 17, 2024

Dr. Andrade Díaz and Prof. Dr. Piquer Rodríguez traveled to the Dry Chaco region of Argentina in July-August 2024. This was a remarkable fieldwork experience filled with adventures and learning opportunities. During the trip, they conducted visualizations of grassland systems in paleochannels and carried out semi-structured interviews with small-scale producers and indigenous communities. The primary goal was to understand the use, management, and valuation of paleochannel grasslands, as well as how livestock management and fire influence shrub encroachment in these neglected systems. They gathered useful data on ecosystem services, including cultural services. They also visited national parks (Copo National Park and El Impenetrable National Park), the Copo and Loro Hablador Multiple Use Reserves, and the Copo Provincial Park. They are grateful to the National and Provincial Parks staff for their constant support and to the Georg Forster - Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for funding this trip.
