General Project Information
The research project “Hydrogeochemical processes related with release of sulfate in an urban aquifer” deals with a cause analysis of high sulfate concentration especially in the groundwater of the Grunewald - catchment area. In total, the sulfate concentration has a decreasing tendency in Berlin’s urban area. However, several sections show constant or increasing sulfate concentrations, such as the Grunewald. This forest belongs to the groundwater catchment area of the water works Beelitzhof and Tiefwerder. The relevance of this area for drinking water production justifies the cause analysis of high sulfate concentrations.
The aim of this study is the determination of mobilization and relocation processes of sulfate in the soil zone, in seepage and groundwater.
Furthermore, all pathways into the groundwater should be detected qualitatively and quantitatively.
