About Us
Tectonics and Sedimentology are separate, but complimentary subfields of Geology. Whereas tectonics is the study of Earth’s structure, its motion and its mechanical properties, Sedimentology deals with changes in Earth’s surface and atmosphere based on records of erosion and deposition. Both fields incorporate the study of past and present Earth systems to understand physical-chemical feedbacks and their effects on the future development of our environment.
Tectonics and Sedimentology are an integral part of the Master’s Program in “Geodynamics & Geomaterials” at the Freie Universität Berlin, and are closely allied with other subfields in the Earth Sciences. Our program provides points of departure for many research themes and opportunities in the Berlin/Brandenburg area. Our graduates are optimally prepared for a broad spectrum of careers.
