UBA-Deposition
Recording, forecasting and assessing substance inputs and their effects in Germany MAPESI
(Modelling of Air Pollutants and EcoSystem Impact)

Summary
The aim of the project is the complete and quantitative modelling of the substance inputs for the years 2005-2007 for the species SO2, NOX, NH3, NH4, O3, for the heavy metals Pb, Cd, Cu and for the basic cations Ca, Mg, K, Na. Furthermore, the ozone depositions on meadows and pastures, semi-natural vegetation, sparse vegetation (dunes, rocky outcrops, etc.), built-up areas, arable land, deciduous forest, coniferous forest, mixed forest and on water bodies must be estimated separately for Germany with a resolution of 1 km.
The assessment of the depositions by calculating the exceedances of critical loads serves to provide well-founded policy advice and to optimise the data basis for further scientific development of the critical loads problem. The deposition values are to be simulated with a chemical transport model (REM-Calgrid, LOTOS) and compared with values from other methods. This will create a more robust statement.
This project is carried out in close cooperation with the project "Strategies for the Reduction of Particulate Matter Pollution" (hereinafter referred to as "UBA-Feinstaub", FE-Nr. 206 43 200/01). This project ends on 25 March 2010. It seems appropriate to end the project "UBA-Deposition" at about the same time. This means that the Federal Environment Agency will have the results of the impact-oriented monitoring (results from "UBA-Deposition") at its disposal almost simultaneously with the developed reduction scenarios for key air pollutants (results from "UBA-Feinstaub").
