Information about Summer Semester 2020
Lectures
Within the framework of these seminars the following possibilities will be offered:
- Material in the form of a script, slides, exercises or videos is made available through the Blackboard course.
- In some cases there will be video conferences (see next point) to answer students' questions, discuss exercises or other material.
What terminal?
In principle, both smartphones or tablets (Android or iOS), as well as the classic desktop or laptop, are suitable. Loudspeaker and microphone are indispensable, preferably a headset (see below). A camera to transmit your own picture. Attention, who has a camera should always be clear about what he/she wants to transmit. For some events it can be useful to write on a virtual whiteboard. This probably works best with a tablet. The FU's favorite platform WebEx has clients for Mac OS, Windows, iOS and Android. For Linux there is a WebApp. Problems are often reported with the WebEx WebApp on Linux. The FU also has central tips for teachers and students for synchronous support.
Headset or headphones?
Helps to avoid feedback and echo. In essence, this is good for the others, because they will not hear their echo. If everyone has a headset, the quality of the video conference increases.
If you don't speak, you're muted! (Mute)
This is especially important without a headset! But it is also helpful in other ways, because the microphone on the headset also picks up background noise (birdsong, message bings from the telephone, horns, suburban trains, children, etc.). Muting works most effectively with video conferencing platforms with a "push-to-talk" function, such as Jitsi.
Ensure good lighting conditions for video transmission
If the camera is to show the face well, it must be well lit. Therefore it is recommended to sit opposite a light source (window) and NOT to have it in the back.
Special Regulations for Bachelor Students
According to current planning, only the ABV course "Introduction to Air Pollution Control" will be held in the summer semester 2020 in the area of additional specialist qualifications. This course can only be found in the course catalogue under SPO 2019. Students of SPO2012 may not be able to register there via the campus management. However, they can still attend the course (inform the lecturer by e-mail) and have themselves recognised by the examination board. The other ABV courses from the subject-related additional qualifications "Visualization of weather and climate data", "Creating weather information in an operational environment" and "Media meteorology" are not planned for the summer semester 2020 until further notice.
However, the module "Media Meteorology" (17.09 - 23.09.2020) could take place if attendance is possible again by then. However, this decision will be made at short notice.
Within the framework of the regulations in the wake of the Corona crisis, the Presidium has published the following handling of oral Bachelor's and Master's examinations on its FAQ page (disputes are excluded from this): "If an oral part of the final thesis is provided for in the relevant study and examination regulations, these examinations are currently not taking place. In order to avoid any disadvantages, you can choose whether the oral part of the final thesis is waived or whether it should take place at a later date after resuming regular study. If you decide to waive the oral part of the final thesis, the grade for the final thesis will only be formed from the written part of the final thesis.".
The following specific regulations for the Mono-Bachelor Meteorology course are made by the examination board:
- According to the SPO, the presentations for the presentation of the work within the framework of the Bachelor thesis are not graded. These lectures will be held in a virtual "joint seminar" at the usual date.
- Please contact the lecturer for the grading of lectures in the context of further courses in meteorology.
- For exams a solution is still being worked out.
