Subject related Partnerships with Institutions of Higher Education
Master Landscape Archaeology at the University of Peradeniya
The partnership aims to consolidate the academic education in the interdisciplinary field of
landscape archaeology between the Freie Universitat Berlin and the University of Peradeniya
on a graduate level. This will be achieved by the implementation of a master study program
‘Landscape Archaeology’ at the University of Peradeniya as partner study program to the joint
MSc Landscape Archaeology of the Freie Universitat Berlin and the Hochschule fur Technik
und Wirtschaft Berlin (HTW).

applied measures include workshops, student and lecturer exchange, joint preparation of
teaching material and joint summer schools.
The combination of these measures strengthen and consolidate the partnership between the
Freie Universitat Berlin and the University of Peradeniya in the interdisciplinary field of
landscape archaeology and build a stable basis for the implementation of the study program,
including the enhancement and improvement of teaching facilities and competence.

qualifications at the interface between archaeology and geoscience:
- understanding for complex interactions between human and environment in prehistoric and
historic time,
- application of advanced methods of spatial data processing, survey techniques,
paleoenvironmental research and basics of modeling,
- evaluating of spatial pattern and processes of prehistoric and historic human environment
interaction as well as natural and cultural landscape development
- under the consideration of a paleoclimatic background, interpretation of paleoenvironmental
proxydata.
2. Enhancement of institutional and teaching capacities at the University of Peradeniya
