HRM
HRM : High resolution Regional Model
Installation and run of High resolution Regional Model (HRM) for Iran and its verification for one year
funded by Atmospheric and meteorological research Centre Iran (ASMERC) 2007-2009
Background:
The High resolution Regional Model (HRM) is a flexible package for Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP). The Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) provides this comprehensive package to meteorological services, universities, and research institutes world-wide. This model uses the topographical data sets for any region of the world at mesh sizes between 30 and 5 km which are prepared at the DWD on request. In the recent years many flooding events caused many damages in Iran and there is no operational model in Iran which forecast the precipitation with high resolution. Installation and run of High resolution Regional Model (HRM) for Iran and its verification for one year.
Objective of the project:
The HRM model is used as NWP model at meteorological centres in many countries. Generally, the output of this model is in good agreement with the observations especially in the neighbour countries of Iran like Oman, Pakistan and United Arab Emirates. Because of the similarity of weather conditions and large scale waves in Iran and the neighbour countries it is of considerable interest to know how this model simulates for Iran. In this study we try to find the performance of the HRM with 14 and 7 km Resolution in forecasting the meteorological variables in Iran. The model will be investigated over one year and will be verified spatial as well as temporal (3 hours, Daily, Monthly and annual). In the recent years there were many flooding event in the basin of Karoon river in the Southwest corner and in the Golestan province in the Nord of Iran. In this study, it will be focused on these two areas, respectively.
