Since industrialization, humans have become one of the most important forces on our planet, profoundly changing the Earth's climate, landscapes, and ecosystems. How can we live without exceeding the planetary carrying capacity limits of the Earth? What contribution can the geosciences make to this? What can we learn from Earth's history? And how can we shape a sustainable future?
