Water harvesting techniques are applied nearly worldwide in arid and semi-arid regions. Remarkable is the adaptation of water harvesting systems to regional climatic, topographic and hydrological characteristics. The knowledge of how to collect and store water was already applied by (pre)historic and ancient cultures.
