Diagnose der Atmosphäre hinsichtlich physikalischer Prozesse, insbesondere zu den Themen Verständnis der Klimavariabilität und von meteorologischen Extremereignissen in mittleren Breiten, Validierung von Klimamodellen und anthropogene Klimaänderung
-
Im Detail betreffen die untersuchten meteorologischen Phänomene die Zyklonenaktivität, großräumige Variabilitätsmuster wie die NAO, und die Identifikation der großskaligen Bedingungen für Sturm, Hochwasser und extreme Regenereignisse. Interdisziplinäre Arbeiten gemeinsam mit Versicherungswirtschaft und Rechtswissenschaft ergänzen die fachwissenschaftlichen Ansätze, speziell hinsichtlich Wirkungen von Klimaänderungen und Extremereignissen
