Since launching on Oct. 15, 1997 the NASA spacecraft Cassini has logged more than 6.1 billion kilometers of exploration. During the long journey to the outer solar system Cassini flew by Venus twice, Earth, and then Jupiter before reaching the orbit around the ringed planet in 2004. Huygens, the landing capsule built by ESA, was released from the Cassini orbiter and landed successfully on the largest Saturnian moon Titan in January 2005. Cassini itself orbits Saturn to this day and continuously collects scientific data to explore the planet as well as its rings and numerous intriguing moons.
